A bush re-initiation and welcome home

When I was young, my dad taught me how to hunt. From traditional hunting of turtles and dugongs (yes, we eat those) to deer hunting in the bush on Prince of Wales Island. I’ve learnt how to humanely kill an animal and then prepare and cook the meat for the table.

I have a huge family. No seriously, I have a HUGE family. My dad is one of 11 children; I have 37 first cousins and as a result, I have an even bigger extended family. In the Torres Strait, family is everything and it represents who you are.
